Spanking new… bathrooms

I like a good shower. I mean it, I am not obsessive about jumping into a shower at every given opportunity but for the ones I do take, I prefer it to be a nice soothing experience. Warm water (luke-warm is perfect) is something I like even on hot days. There is something relaxing about standing under a nice brisk shower that stirs the soul and wakes one up. I have recorded in the archives that my cycling to work is fulfilled by the presence of ready to use shower facilities. I find that without a place to shower, I might have been tempted to give up cycling.

Well, what I have failed to mention in my chronicles is the fact that the shower I use is lodged behind a heavy vehicle workshop and as a consequence, the place is grimy and dirty. Couple that with the fact that the place is decades old and you get the picture of greasy grime at every corner and moldy shower curtains. Not something that perks up ones soul to get ready for the day at work. But it is better that nothing and I have been sneaking in and out of these bathrooms (in tip toes) for the past several months.

Recently, a spate of renovation and building upgrades blocked access to my bathrooms and as a result, I had to slack on my cycling trips to work. Luckily, the ‘inconvenience’ was well rewarded. This morning I made my way across rubbles and a flight of stairs to get to one of the new shower rooms. I was greeted with nice clean changing area and a well lit shower room. The floors were clean and moldy curtains had given way to clean frosted glass doors. The shower area is more than twice the previous ones with a large shower head and good water pressure. All the makings of a nice experience. The time delay push buttons were replaced by a proper valve so I need not grope around for water with soap on my face. The icing was when I opened the shower – Warm water. Woo hoo. The bathroom experience is better than my home and It seems like I will be taking much few showers at home from now on :)

Guess waiting out noisy renovation works has its ultimate rewards. And they are well worth it…
