Sketch crawl

Some of you might know that I try my hand at pencil sketching once in a while. It is a hidden passion of mine to be able to do creative sketching. I would like to pick up on proper techniques one of these days but till then, I have to contend with sub-standard attempts at amusing myself.

On a related note, Enrico is the originator of this world wide movement called sketch crawl – the idea is that on a specific day, artists in different parts of the world would catch up at local haunts and try out sketching what they wish to. Over the past years, the idea has caught on (it is free form and quality is not a constraint). Anyone can draw (like Gusteau (from ratatouille) would say) and I decided I would try my hand – though there is no local chapter in Singapore. I chose to draw at home and here are some sketches. I am embarrassed at the quality, but in the sake of art, I publish them here. Click through for a larger version…

Hopefully this is a start of a new life for my dormant passion.

bicycle, the best way to look around

Really. I rest my case.

Goes to showing that the humble bike is the best way to observe everything and get around quickly. Isn’t it an ideal combination for transport. Now who says, biking is impractical. And note, he is not riding a whiz-bang ultra light weight, carbon fibre, tri-spec bike. I am sure he can afford one – but he does not us it because it would not get the work done.

I am guessing Alonso is taking a close look at the track, trying to determine racing lines, alternate options to overtake, calculate the apex of the chicane, looking for bumps and unevenness in the track etc… It is amazing that the fastest drivers rely on first hand info gathered from bike trips around the circuit. I hear most drivers do this at all circuits. Cool eh.

Enrico

I bought a couple of limited editionĀ ”Venice Chronicles” direct from author and am eagerly awaiting the special Yoga-Enrico Book plates. They are almost done as he says. Cool…

Now I need to think of a place to hang on my walls.
