rain, honk, honk
Had a great rest over the weekend and have been ready to ride this week. As I got ready to ride, I realized it might rain during the commute. I do enjoy riding in the rain (most people seem to hate this) – it beats hot and sweaty any day in my book. However, rain brings along some risks with it. The traffic gets heavy and my bike has some serious breaking issues in the wet. Makes me wonder if I should have opted for the poprad disc instead. Anyway, I compensate by riding slower and more carefully in the wet and it is nice to take it easy once in a while.
Towards the end of the ride, I ride through Shenton way and usually I need to navigate a bit among vehicles criss-crossing across lanes. As I was riding, my theory on “Expensive Cars = Bad drivers” theory was put to test. I ride from NE to SW in the image and usually, the first pushpin is a messy area as there is a bus stop and an overhead pass. This means that many vehicles stop there to drop off / pick people up. Though it is a bus lane, private cars stop there. I usually move to the second lane and watch out for morons and idiots weaving out of the left lane. Today, it was a 5 Series BMW that turned in sharply. I waved gently to the driver effectively asking to slow down a bit. But the lady was not happy about my gesture and honked hard and rode furiously past. She was shouting but I could not hear. The second pushpin is a traffic junction and as I overtook her, I shouted back and said the left lane is for left turn only and waved the ‘un’friendly F$#k-Off Sign.
I rode on and before I reached Keppel Rd, I heard another honk. I was pretty pissed until I noticed the lady waved an apology to me (realizing I suppose that I was riding properly all along). Ah well, at the least, I have made one person realize that cyclists also follow traffic rules to the book. As for my theory, I still think the lady is a moron. Hopefully she can be nicer and redeem herself from self imposed moron-hood.
